The police are investigating a fireworks accident at the International Camp for Young Fire-Fighters held in Padasjoki, southern Finland. A rocket from a firework stand flew into the crowd late on Friday, slightly injuring 36 people.

Those hurt were treated in the camp’s field hospital. None of the injuries sustained were serious. One of those injured was a German national.

Earlier the organizers said police no investigation was necessary. However, the police now say no such decision was made. They will investigate whether the fireworks display organizers caused danger or injuries.

The international camp was arranged by the Finnish Association of Fire and Rescue Services. They have welcomed the police investigation.

A total of 3,700 fire-fighters attended the camp. These included about 300 young fire-fighters from abroad.

The international camp is held every four years to provide both theoretical and practical assistance in fire-fighting.
