Air currents have carried impurities from brush fires in Russia into parts of south-east Finland. Although air quality remains satisfactory, it is expected to get worse by Wednesday.

Fine particles originating from brush and forest fires in Russia are gradually increasing in amount even though the fires are distant from the shores of southern Finland.

Officials say air quality in southern Finland could deteriorate as the level of particles increases. They are already warning of the health risk posed by long-term exposure to fine particles.

”Cardiac and respiratory patients as well as those suffering asthma could experience symptoms,” says Sara Piutunen, Environmental Inspector of the City of Lappeenranta.
