Problems persist in train traffic

The rail network was experiencing disruptions on Wednesday after two days of storms. A number of train services were replaced by buses and others cancelled entirely, with eastern Finland facing most problems.
Trains were not yet running between Tampere and Turku on Wednesday, and buses were carrying passengers on the route instead.
Similiar problems were seen In the east, on the rail line between Jyväskylä and Pieksämäki and the line between Joensuu and Parikkala.
The line between Mikkeli and Pieksämäki, which was cut on Wednesday morning, has been opened for use again.
Trains were also delayed between Iisalmi and Sukeva, Varkaus and Joensuu, and Lieksa and Nurmes due to the malfunctioning of remote control systems.
Faults on the coastal line between Helsinki and Turku have been fixed and these services were operating normally by Wednesday afternoon.
The Finnish Transport Agency instructs drivers to exercise caution at level crossings, as warning signals are not working in many of them because of power failures.
