In Espoo, about half of those being made redundant were given advance notice of dismissal, while in Oulu employees were provided with general information about the timetable for job reductions and details of the severance packages on offer. These vary depending on each staff member's length of service.

Workers in Tampere were still awaiting information on Monday afternoon.

The chief shop steward for white-collar workers in Oulu, Mikko Merihaara, last week estimated that most of those being let go would leave by the end of August. Some 700 people are to lose their jobs in Oulu.

Some 400-500 will remain at work in Oulu, most of them developing basic phones.
