No disease-causing bacteria were found in the samples taken from local water on Monday, nor on Sunday. The latest laboratory results were released on Tuesday afternoon.

However the town of Nokia says that if residents notice any strange odour or taste in the water, they should run the tap until the signs disappear.

An odd smell and taste in the water sparked fears of contamination in the Kankaantaka area on Sunday, and the local authorities shut off the water station for a time. On Monday, a faulty pump was found to be the cause of the smell, and there were concerns that some chemicals may have entered the water supply from the pump.

The local water supply authority continues to flush the water distribution system. The department carries on accepting reports from the public regarding odd odours or taste in the water. The phone number to call is 03 5652 500.

Water distribution points are also open as planned until 10pm on Tuesday at Öljytie 2 and Pajakatu 28 A.

In 2007, thousands of people fell ill and three may have died as a result of polluted water in Nokia.
