The sentence came after a psychiatric examination found the defendant to be mentally competent, even though she was found to have a personality disorder.

In addition to finding her guilty of using insulin to cause the death of a patient at the Ylinen rehabilitation centre, the court also found that she had tried to kill an infant relative in the same manner.

The defendant’s lawyer said that an appeal will be lodged. The nurse has been in custody since August 2007. She has denied all charges.
