Teleoperator Elisa is to start selling the popular phones without a tie-in sale. To date, consumers have had to purchase a fixed airtime contract together with the handset from telecommunications operator TeliaSonera.

Elisa will launch its sale of iPhones on Thursday. The company is making the phone available to all customers regardless of their operator.

The iPhone 4 is priced at 589 euros for a model with 16 gigabytes of storage or 689 euros for one with 32 gigabytes.

The new iPhone’s video chat feature, FaceTime, has been causing a buzz. However, chats can be conducted only with other iPhone 4 users.
