Litmanen Left Out of Finland Squad

Finland’s men’s football coach Mixu Paatelainen has not selected Jari Litmanen for summer internationals against San Marino and Sweden. Paatelainen picked 19 players who will be part of the squad for the European Championship qualifiers.

The squad includes Alexander Ring, HJK Helsinki’s 19-year-old midfield starlet, who is less than half 40-year-old Litmanen’s age. The squad will be completed later this week, and Litmanen could still join the squad after HJK’s cup tie against FC Lahti on Thursday.

Paatelainen is also holding a training camp for players on the fringes of the national team. Dual citizens Carl Jenkinson and Lauri Dalla Valle, who will then join up with the under-21 squad, are included. Defender Jenkinson has agreed to join English Premier League club Arsenal.

YLE understands that Arsenal had approved Jenkinson’s arrival to join up with the Finnish squad.
