Peaceful celebrations at weekend festivals

Summer festivals around Finland have passed off peacefully this weekend. Events such as Ilosaarirock in Joensuu, the Tammerfest in Tampere and the Seinäjoki Tango Festival have kept the police busy. But in a majority of cases no serious incidents were reported.

Esa Uusi-Kankkuri from the Ostrobothnia Police said they received an exceptionally low number of calls due to the Seinäjoki Tango Festival. In fact, less than half for a normal weekend.

In Tampere, a police official said the Tammerfest had passed off without any major incident.

Police added officers mainly have to deal with scuffles, minor offences or lesser drug related incidents at summer events. However, more cases of drunken driving are reported at major events than usual.
