Pickpockets strike in southwest Finland
Police in Satakunta have received several reports about pickpockets. A trio of foreigners has apparently been relieving the unsuspecting public of their wallets in shopping centres in Pori, Eura and Harjavalta.
Pori police are hot on the trail of a swathe of pickpocketing incidents in the region. The thieves have struck mainly in shopping centres using the same modus operandus. The wallets have been taken from purses and bags in shopping carts, when their owners have been distracted at the cash register.
“Over the past several days we have received many reports about thefts conducted in this way. A trio of foreigners has stolen wallets in Pori and its surroundings as well as in Harjavalta and Eura,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jarmo Laine.
The crimes have not involved any kind of violence. Police have not yet detained the suspects, nor have the victims recovered their possessions.
The authorities believe the suspects may have already left the Satakunta area but still hope to nab the trio with the aid of a description.
The criminals are suspected of having committed similar crimes in other parts of southwest Finland.
