Popular file-sharing site shuts down

One of the world’s largest BitTorrent sites, BTJunkie, voluntarily shut down on Monday, according to Finnish anti-piracy watchdog (CIAPC). The site is estimated to have some 100,000 Finnish users.

The move follows the recent takedown of the file-sharing website Megaupload by US authorities, who also arrested its founders.

In Sweden, one of the founding members of the most famous file-sharing site, Pirate Bay, is serving time in prison.

Authorities in Finland have meanwhile proposed a law that could force internet service providers to block users’ access to file-sharing pages, where music, films and other material are shared in breach of copyright rules.
