Pride egg throwers could face prosecution

Police have concluded their investigations into an incident in which eggs were thrown at participants in this year’s Helsinki Pride parade. A young man and woman could face charges including assault.

The suspects threw eggs at marchers according to photographic evidence. No one was, however, injured in the incident. The police findings are being passed on to prosecutors.

In addition to charges of assault and minor assault, the suspects could also face a count of offending the free right of political expression.

The annual Helsinki Pride event promotes the rights sexual minorities. Police estimate that as many as 8,000 marchers took place in this year’s event held at the end of June.
