Defence Minister Stefan Wallin has been cleared of any wrongdoing in his real estate dealings.

In 2001, Wallin bought a flat in Turku from the Åbo Akademi university foundation for 225,000 euros. He later sold it back to the foundation for nearly 400,000 euros. At the time, Wallin served on the foundation's board.

Police say the prices paid were market values and that there is no reason to suspect wrongdoing.

Wallin said on Wednesday that he had expected the probe to be dropped.

He steps down next month as chair of the Swedish People's Party, which represents the nation's six-percent Swedish-speaking minority.

The Swedish-language Åbo Akademi is Finland's second-oldest university.
