Public warned of angry mama bear
Residents in the south eastern municipality of Luumäki have cancelled an advisory asking people to stay indoors as the mother of a cub killed by a car searched for her offspring. Officials say there have been no fresh sightings of the bear.
Police in South Karelia have advised the public against spending time outdoors near highway 6 in Taavetti. The bear cub was hit by a car on the road on Tuesday night.
The authorities said earlier it is likely that the cub’s mother is looking for her offspring and is quite nervous. Local residents were advised to stay indoors for a couple of days.
Sightings of the bear should be reported to the local hunting association or to the emergency number 112.
