VR will begin consultative talks with personnel representatives next week that are intended to lead to the elimination of close to 100 jobs in ticket sales and customer services.

Nowadays, over half of all rail tickets are purchased online or from self-service automats, leaving staff fewer customers to handle.

VR says it has no plans to close any ticket sales offices or stations, but service hours may be reduced.

Passenger Traffic Division Director Antti Tiitola told Yle that right now, the company is not investing in more ticket automats, but is looking to strong growth in online sales.
