Rovio’s ‘bad piggies’ to hog spotlight in new game
Gamers appear to have developed a soft spot for the egg-stealing pigs cast as the arch-enemies of the angry avians in Finnish game maker Rovio’s colossal hit game, said CEO Mikael Hed.
Not all gamers have been bewitched by the pig-bashing antics of the colourfully-feathered protagonists at the heart of Rovio’s Angry Birds game. Many of them have developed some sympathy for the undisputed underdogs – or underpigs – who are subjected to the birds’ unrelenting attacks as they protect their eggs.
“We are constantly being asked ‘what about the pigs’ side of the story’,” Hed explained.
A new game called “Bad Piggies” allows the pigs to finally break out from their casting as the ‘bad guys’ and will be available at the end of September.
The first versions will be released for Apple’s iOS mobile platforms, Android mobile devices, and Apple’s Mac desktop system.
Other versions are in the works for Windows Phone, Windows 8 and PC platforms, and will be available later on.
Rovio first published the wildly popular Angry Birds strategy game in 2009 and achieved the status of being one of the most downloaded games, passing the one-billion download mark in November 2011.
In July, the company released another new game, Amazing Alex, which has so far failed to approach the popularity of the Angry Birds franchise.
