Seal pup found in garden
Simo residents found a rare, uninvited guest in their yard on Easter Monday—a seal pup. The pup had a lengthy trip to get to the garden, which is located around half a kilometer away from the Simojoki river.
The pup was in good health, but vets decided to send it to Ranua zoo to recuperate.
Lauri Manninen, duty officer at Lapland emergency services, said that seals had been spotted in the river before but he had not previously been involved in similar rescue operations. The sea is seven kilometers away from where the pup was found.
The animal is now at Ranua zoo, and will be returned to the wild once it has recovered.
