Self-service tax cards coming soon

The Finnish Tax Administration says taxpayers may soon be able to print tax cards provided by their online service. Tax officials say the self-service cards will be as valid as statements received in the mail or at regional tax offices.

Taxpayers may soon be able to print valid tax cards provided online, say officials from the Finnish Tax Administration, Vero. The self-service option will become available from October.  Officials say the self-service cards will be as official as statements delivered via post or requested from local tax offices.

“We have been asked for this feature and this is the reason for the reform. There were more than 1.6 million tax card changes in 2011, 600,000 of them were made online,” said chief inspector Kaj Hoffren of the Finnish Tax Administration.

Consumers will be allowed to download and print tax cards that do not require any additional reviews by tax officials. The vast majority of tax cards, some 80 percent, can be printed in this way.

Taxpayers will be able to print tax information for salary payments, auxiliary income payments, marine income payments, unemployment benefit payments or for receiving support payments for caring for sick relatives.
