Soini named as threat to world economy
A US business website has included Finns Party chair Timo Soini in a list of ‘13 people destroying the global economy’.
The list was compiled by the Business Insider website, which nevertheless emphasised that the listed figures are neither ‘bad’, nor intentionally working to damage the global economy.
Even so, the authors cited Soini’s opposition to eurozone bailouts and named him as ‘one of the biggest eurosceptics in Europe’. He was said to be ‘in a position of incredible importance with regard to continued eurozone bailouts’ due to his role as leader of the biggest opposition party in Finland’s parliament.
The article also cited an open letter Soini wrote last year, titled ‘Why I Don’t Support Europe’s Bailouts’.
He appears to have been chosen to represent the eurosceptic politicians that have affected decision-makers across the continent as the crisis has developed.
The experienced populist is joined by some illustrious names, including German chancellor Angela Merkel, US president Barack Obama, British prime minister David Cameron and French president Francois Hollande.
