Soini: Not for Finns to pay for mistakes of Spanish banks

Finns Party leader Timo Soini has issued a demand for the Finnish Parliament to be convened to debate what he says are significant changes being made to the eurozone's permanent rescue fund, the EFSF.

Soini expressed disappointment on Friday with decisions made by the Brussels summit. He was especially critical of opening the European Financial Stability Facility to provide support to banks, as it was set up to provide financial assistance to eurozone states.

"It is not for the Finnish taxpayer to pay for the mistakes and actions of Spanish or Cypriot banks. It is totally morally indefensible," said Soini.

The Finns Party leader was also of the opinion that the Brussels gathering took lamentable steps in the direction of closer economic and banking union, as well as the creation of eurobonds.

"This is like cooking a frog, doing it little by little, so that the frog doesn't notice it's being cooked."

Soini issued a demand that Parliament be recalled from its summer break to debate the issue.
