Cold Snap to Continue in Eastern Finland

Recent glacial temperatures are expected to continue in eastern Finland this week, in spite of warmer temperatures in the south.

Temperatures in eastern Finland are expected to continue to hover around -15 to -20 degrees Celsius, while Lapland will see temperatures remain below -20 degrees on Monday, at least.

Sunday was the coldest day of this winter seen so far. In Lappeenranta, the thermometer dipped down to -35.5ºC (-31.9ºF).

This winter's record for the capital region was also set Sunday in both Helsinki and Vantaa where temperatures of -25.3 degrees Celsius were recorded.

Record lows for the current season were set in many parts of the country overnight.

Nationally, this winter's lowest recorded temperature is -36.6 degrees Celsius (-33.9 ºF) which was recorded at Kuusamo in the northeast on Saturday.
