Soviet Bomb Found in Helsinki

An unexploded Soviet bomb has been discovered in the Käpylä area of Helsinki. The World War Two explosive was detected four meters below ground in a sports arena, and is believed to weigh as much as two tonnes.

It was most likely dropped on Helsinki during Soviet air raids in 1944. Over 16,000 bombs were dropped during the raids.

Authorities don't believe the bomb will explode on its own. Experts from the Defence Forces will begin digging it up at the end of May.

Local residents do not need to worry and evacuation of the area is unlikely, the experts said.
