Sperm Banks Cleared out if New Law Passed

Fertility clinics will be forced to destroy their current stocks of sperm if a new fertility law goes into effect, reports the daily Turun Sanomat.

Under the new law, sperm donated anonymously could no longer be used by the clinics.

The newspaper reports that clinics fear the law, which would require the disclosure of personal information, could drive off most potential donors.

According to the organisation Family Federation, only 13 percent of sperm donors have agreed to reveal their personal information.

The fertility treatment law will most likely come into effect next summer.
