Spring flooding begins in southern and central regions

Warmer weather and melting snow will be raising water levels over the next few days in southern coastal areas and in South Ostrobothnia, says the national environmental administration.

Waters are expected to reach peak levels in southern rivers early this week and around the end of the month in South Ostrobothnia.

Rains are also adding to the volume of water, with floods already rising into fields along the Lapuanjoki river.

In Central Ostrobothnia, flooding is usually seen in late April-early May. In Lapland, it normally occurs in May.

Waters are expected to be exceptionally high this year in some parts of the Kokemäenjoki floodplain in the west of the country.
