Taxi Rate Hike in August

Taxi rates are going up as of the beginning of August. According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, rates will rise by an average 3.3 percent nationwide.

For example, the start charge on the meter at the beginning of a journey on weekdays will go up from the present 4.50 euros to 4.70 euros, while the start charge nights, Sundays and holidays will increase from 7.00 to 7.20 euros.

Taxi rates went up last in July 2006.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications rejected a proposal by the Finnish Taxi Owners Federation for a number of new charges. These included a higher night and Sunday rate in the Helsinki area and a charge for reserving limo services.
