The sixth episode of All Points North explores this week’s topics with television personality and funnyman Ali Jahangiri who offers some insight into the culture of racism in Finland as well as tales of illicit border crossings with refugees in Greece.
This week, we also discuss happiness following the recently published report by the United Nations that found Finland to be the world’s happiest country. Explanations, feelings and experiences are shared on the merry news.
After feelings of happiness, we take a turn for the weird as we explore topics of paranormal forces and dig into the issues one medical doctor puts forth about why feelings of an uncanny nature, precognition and sensing the presence of others, are stigmatized in research on the human mind.
Other topics we touch upon include a citizen’s initiative that gathered over 50,000 signatures demanding cost-free upper secondary and vocational schooling for students in Finland, the public step-down of the Finnish Youth Foundation’s CEO Aki Haaro following a police probe into murky financial dealings, the knuckle wrap by Niinistö condemning the recent nerve agent attack in the UK, as well as Donald Tusk’s appeal to Trump to make trade, not war.
And the listener question of the week poses an interesting query about the passionate relationship Finns share with coffee.
