A total of 138 proposals have found their way to the competition board of a project that means to erect a graveside monument for deceased ex-president Mauno Koivisto.

The Prime Minister's office announced the end of the competition on Friday, and has yet to publicise images of the proposals.

The results of the competition will be announced on 9 April. The first prize sum is 10,000 euros, the second 5,000 euros and the third place cash prize is set at 3,000 euros.

The memorial will be erected in Hietaniemi cemetery in Helsinki on Koivisto's birthday, 25 November.

The prize board is lead by undersecretary Timo Lankinen, and is composed of science and art experts, government and Lutheran parish representatives as well as spokespeople for Koivisto's surviving family.

President Koivisto died on 12 May, 2017 at age 93. He was the ninth sitting President of Finland from 1982 to 1994.
