The winner of the Miss Finland 2018 contest was 23-year-old Alina Voronkova, who was crowned Saturday at the contest's finals, held at the Billnäs ironworks in the southern municipality of Raseborg.
According to tabloid newspaper Iltalehti, Voronkova's father is Russian while her mother is an Ingrian Finn.
The contest winner, a Helsinki resident who competed against 19 other contestants, told tabloid Ilta-Sanomat her Russian background and ability to speak both Russian and Finnish used to embarrass her as a child. She said however that she uses the language skills to her own advantage these days.
Voronkova has participated in several beauty contests in the past and is very active on social media, according to the papers.
The runners-up of the contest were Eevi Ihalainen from Lappeenranta and Jenny Lappalainen from Helsinki.
