Finnish police report that a 25-year-old man suspected of taking part in the sexual abuse of a girl under the age of 15 in Oulu, western Finland, was found in Germany and arrested on Tuesday.
The man is suspected of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, aggravated rape and assault, according to police. In a rare move earlier on Tuesday, police published the identity and photos of the suspect in an effort to track him down. Oulu police said on Friday that they had issued a warrant for a person suspected of sex crimes in the area.
Seven other suspects in the case have already been remanded in custody.
Police said the suspects carried out the crimes in different homes in Oulu over the course of several months. Police also said that all of the suspects had foreign backgrounds and arrived in the country as asylum seekers or as quota refugees. Last week police said that there are no indications that there are any direct links among the three cases and have said that fresh cases may still come to light.
Oulu police continue to investigate two other underage sex abuse cases in the area involving suspects with foreign backgrounds. One of those cases is being investigated as exploitation while the other is being investigated as aggravated rape and aggravated sexual exploitation.
The individual suspected of sexual exploitation had been arrested but was released on Monday, but is still considered a suspect, according to police.
