The traffic agency said it does not expect any road congestion on Thursday evening. Driving conditions are mostly good, with the exception of North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu which have seen fresh snow.
Traffic officials said they expect the highest volume of traffic on southbound highways 3, 4 and 7.
The number of motorists peaked slightly around noon, but traffic has levelled off through the afternoon, Auli Aalto from Traffic Management Finland told Yle. “Most people still have some days off work so they can hit the road some other time.”
Boxing Day has traditionally been the busiest day for travelling back home from holiday destinations in Finland.
Officials also said motorists were observing speed limits on Thursday, and no major accidents had been reported.
