On Thursday, Valmet Automotive will begin recruiting 400 workers for its car plant in Uusikaupunki, Southwest Finland.

The company is responding to an increased demand for cars — with production volumes rising, the new work will begin as early as January 2021.

According to Valmet the recruitment schedule is challenging as it needs to hire 400 new employees in seven weeks, to have enough time to train them and stick to the production schedule.

Focus on areas with high unemployment rates

The recruitment process will focus special attention on areas in Finland with high unemployment rates. According to Valmet, while previous work experience is valued, the applicants do not need to be familiar with the car industry.

The new hires will work in all production departments at the car plant — auto body welding shop, paint shop, assembly and internal logistics.

Due to limitations posed by the coronavirus situation, most of the recruitment process will happen online, the company said.
