National airline Finnair has announced plans to continue flying to regional airports in Kajaani, Kemi, Kokkola, Joensuu and Jyväskylä until 18 April.

The company had previously said in September that it would end domestic commercial flights to the five regional airports after this winter season, which ends on 27 March.

In December, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom imposed a public service obligation on the five routes in order to safeguard regional air connections during the current crisis in the travel industry.

Finnair’s extension of the services is aimed at ensuring air traffic to the five localities can continue uninterrupted.
