Police have detained a woman suspected of vaccine fraud. She was reported to have been going from door-to-door in the town of Virolahti, offering purported coronavirus jabs for 150 euros each on Saturday. She was taken into custody on Sunday in the eastern city of Lappeenranta.
The Southeastern Finland Police Department says it does not believe the suspect was in possession of actual Covid-19 vaccine.
Police Commissioner Jukka Tylli told the news agency STT that it was unclear how many doors the suspect had knocked on, but that a number of people had notified police. He urged others who had been approached to also notify police.
Tylli said callers reported that the woman introduced herself as a foreign nursing student.
Virolahti, Finland's southeasternmost municipality, is near the Vaalimaa crossing point on the Russian border.
"Disgusting behaviour"
Kymsote's chief physician, Marja-Liisa Mäntymaa, described it as "quite disgusting behaviour" to the local newspaper Kymen Sanomat.
"This was certainly not someone acting appropriately, but rather activity that should be reported to the police," she added.
Authorities say they will release more information about the case on Monday.
