People in Finland can as of Wednesday access the EU's digital vaccine "passport" from the healthcare portal My Kanta.
The certificates provide information on whether holders have been jabbed, have recovered from the virus or have a recent test result. The free certificates, which contain a QR code, are available in Finnish, Swedish and English.
The joint EU certificate, introduced throughout the bloc, allows holders in theory to move between member states without having to quarantine or undergo extra coronavirus tests.
Certificates verifying tests will be based on the most recent test results.
Virus recovery certification requires a positive PCR test result.
Vaccine certification has meanwhile been available in the portal since the end of June. The certificate includes the name of the vaccine manufacturer, the date of the most recent dose as well as the number of administered doses.
How to access the EU's digital Covid certificate:
- Log in to My Kanta using authentication such as an online banking ID.
- From the menu on the left, select COVID-19 Certificate (or Koronatodistus in Finnish). There is also a direct link to the certificate section from the My Kanta home page.
- Press the pdf link to open the COVID-19 certificate. It should open in a new tab.
- Save the pdf file to your phone or other device. You can also print out a hard copy of the certificate.
Despite the EU-wide certificate rollout, Finland is still recommending that travellers stay up to date with country-specific health measures.
People needing coronavirus tests for travel must book appointments with fee-based private healthcare providers. However people requiring tests upon arrival in Finland can access them free of charge through the public healthcare system.
The government on Wednesday emphasised that travellers must find out which EU digital Covid certificate (vaccine, recent test or recovery) is needed to reach an intended destination.
"Before travelling, you should also check the Covid-19 situation in your destination and, before returning home, you should check the situation in Finland and take care to follow the latest recommendations," the government said in a statement.
The coronavirus vaccination certificate is valid for 12 months.
