The Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF), General Timo Kivinen is participating in the Nato Military Committee Conference this weekend, according to the FDF.

In addition to General Kivinen, Finland's military representative in EU and Nato, Major General Mikko Heiskanen will also be in attendance at the conference, which started on Friday.

Along with commanders of the armed forces of the JEF countries, Sweden's chief of defence is also scheduled to attend, marking the first time the two Nordic countries are at the conference.

The defence chiefs plan to discuss the implementation of decisions made at the Nato summit in Madrid over the summer, according to the defence alliance.

Among other issues addressed at the Madrid summit, Nato formally invited Finland and Sweden to join the alliance.

The commanders will also discuss Nato's ongoing operations and tasks, such as the alliance's operations in Iraq and Kosovo, in which Finland will also participate, the FDF said.
