This is the first time there have been no fatalities from elk crashes in twenty years. Ten years ago elk crashes killed around ten people per year, but reductions in the number of animals in Finland have reduced the risk.

There were around 1,300 elk crashes in Finland last year, and the province with the most elk incidents was Kainuu.
