Finland to Send 12 Peacekeepers to Congo

Finland plans to deploy 12 peacekeeping soldiers to the Democratic Republic of Congo to take part in the EU’s crisis management operation there.

The aim of the operation is to secure Parliamentary elections in the country next month.

The group will include three staff officers, and three medical teams comprising a doctor and two nurses each.

The Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy decided on Wednesday on Finnish participation in the operation.
