DocPoint festival brings documentaries to Helsinki

One of the biggest documentary film festivals in the Nordic countries kicked off in Helsinki on Tuesday. The six-day DocPoint event is presenting 134 documentaries from around the world—with some even projected onto the walls of buildings in downtown Helsinki.

This year’s programme includes the world’s first 3D documentary Cave of Forgotten Dreams, directed by Werner Herzog, as well as Jennifer Fox’s My Reincarnation and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam winner Planet of Snail.

The festival opens with a tour of short films, A Wall is a Screen, during which documentaries will be projected onto the walls and roofs of buildings in central Helsinki.

On Thursday, tickets go on sale for the third DocPoint Tallinn. Its programme includes a selection of fresh Finnish documentaries and international successes in the Estonian capital, just a couple of hours south of Helsinki by ship.
