The Finnish Nature League, critical of a "runaway consumer culture,” wants people to leave their wallets at home on Friday.

The environmental group points out that “Earth Overshoot Day” was already observed in September -- a day when humanity begins using more resources than the planet can regenerate annually.

Buy Nothing Day is observed on the last Friday in November. In the United States, it strategically falls on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the biggest shopping day in the country.
