Central Railway Station Metro Reopens

Helsinki's Central Metro Railway Station reopened for travellers on Monday. The underground station had been closed for more than three months after a burst pipe flooded the platforms in November.

Repairs are, however, continuing at the station. For example, the lifts won't be operable until summer. The water damage has so far cost more than five million euros.

The repair operation affected the daily lives of many commuters and other travellers. During the closure of the station, traffic on the metro line dropped by ten percent as passengers used alternative bus and tram routes.

Passenger levels at the nearby Kaisaniemi metro station doubled during the period to an estimated 10,000 per day.
