HIM Hits #1 on UK Rock Chart

Finnish pop-metal band HIM's new album Screamworks: Love In Theory And Practice has topped the British rock chart in its first week of release.

On the rock list, the disc edged out the Muse's album The Resistance and the Foo Fighters' best-of compilation. So far HIM's album has yet to appear on the overall Top 40 album list, though.

The quintet's previous record, Venus Doom (2007), made it to number 31 on the UK album chart. Its 2005 album Dark Light hit number 18 on the British and US album lists, making them the first Finnish band to earn a gold record in the US.

HIM is on tour in Australia until March 1. They launch a European tour in Germany a week later, with seven UK dates beginning March 13. Then the group tours North America until early May.

Formed in Helsinki a decade and a half ago, the band has become a rare visitor to Finland besides its annual New Year's shows at the city's Tavastia Club.

Their next scheduled appearance in Finland is at the Sonisphere Festival in Pori next July. They will co-headline that mega-fest along with Iron Maiden. Also appearing are Mötley Crüe, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Slayer, The Cult, Anthrax and Helsinki's 69 Eyes.
