In spite of the rise, the disease has been on the decline in Finland over the past few decades.

Most of the cases affected elderly Finnish people. Foreign-born persons made up around one quarter of the cases.

The number of children who contracted tuberculosis did not rise from the previous year. Tuberculosis generally affects children more seriously than adults. A child in the Pirkanmaa region died from meningitis in January after contracting tuberculosis.
