Majority of Finns Support Euthanasia for Suffering

Three-fourths of Finns say they would support euthanasia for a loved-one suffering from an incurable illness. Somewhat fewer, 70 percent, say they would be ready to be euthanised themselves.

According to the weekend supplement of the Väli-Suomen newspapers, young adults and those of working-age are the most supportive of euthanasia. Those over the age of 65 view euthanasia the most unfavourably.

Over 1,000 Finns over the age of 15 responded to the poll carried out by TNS Gallup in October.

Euthanasia is currently illegal in Finland.
