Excessive Melamine Found In Chinese Sweets

The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira has found melamine content exceeding permitted levels in two of 33 samples of Chinese-produced "White Rabbit" sweets on sale in Finland.

In addition Evira has found excesses of melamine in two recent shipments of Koala biscuits. The products are being withdrawn from the market. The Food Safety Authority says, however, that they are not a direct health risk.

Early this month the Finnish Food Safety Authority gave municipal control authorities instructions to inspect Chinese milk-containing products marketed in Finland. Any suspicious products are being analysed.
