“It was fantastic,” said Katainen of the meeting, adding that relations between the US and Finland are in excellent shape. According to the premier, the decision by the US to sell Finland a Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM), previously only sold to Australia, is a sign of goodwill toward Finland.

Biden commended Finland for its role in global crisis management work and said Finland continues to punch above its weight in these operations. The American Vice President told Katainen that the US appreciates Finland's efforts to make the world a safer place.

Topics including innovation and the ongoing crisis in Syria were also on the agenda.

During his official visit to the US capital, Katainen has met Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner and Chairman of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke, IMF chief Christine Lagarde as well as members of the US Congress.
