Tyrnävä father denies murdering children

The prosecutor has demanded life imprisonment for a man standing trial for murdering his two children by burning their house down as they slept last November.

The man denies the charges, but admits setting the fire that killed his children, who were aged two and six. He claims his intention was only to burn down the house, not to kill the two children.

The accused and his wife, the children’s mother, were going through a divorce at the time.

The prosecutor wants a sentence of life imprisonment for arson and two counts of murder. Closing statements in the trial were heard at Oulu District court on Wednesday, with a verdict expected at a later date.
