Reports of the proposed visit by the Italian head of government Mario Monti were confirmed by Pasi Rajala, special aide in the Office of the Prime Minister, according to the daily Helsingin Sanomat.
While Rajala said a precise schedule or itinerary had not yet been confirmed, commercial broadcaster MTV3 reported that Prime Minister Monti is expected to meet with President Sauli Niinistö, Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen and Parliamentary Speaker Eero Heinäluoma.
Some weeks ago Monti had accused had accused northern euro states of undermining confidence in the monetary union and sharply criticised Finnish demands for a collateral-backed Spanish bailout. Finance Minister Urpilainen has however maintained that relations between the two states remain cordial.
