Finland's A-listers due at Independence gala after-party

Star-gazers intending to ogle Yle's Independence gala after-party at downtown Helsinki’s Teatteri restaurant can feast their eyes on a constellation of Finnish A-list personalities.

Among the local celebrities expected to put in an appearance at the decidedly more relaxed after-party, are the nation’s number one rap artist, an Olympic medalist, and the front man of a Finnish band now tearing up the music scene in Germany.

Yle’s after-party is expected to assemble the crème de la crème of Finland’s who’s who list, under a theme that is positive and constructive.

“We have invited guests who have moved forward by realising their dreams, although it hasn’t been at all easy,” explained event co-host Krista Taubert.

She revealed that among the personalities due to show up are Finnish rapper Cheek, Antti Saarnio, chairman of the rising local phonemaker Jolla, Olympic medalist and javelin athlete Antti Ruuskanen and lead singer of the pop ensemble Sunrise Avenue.

Mood music for the evening will be in the capable hands of Grammy-winning American vocal group New York Voices and local soloist Laura Närhi. The amusingly titled Phil Harmonic band is slated to back up the evening's performers.

What after-party would be complete without an off-beat guest? This year that role will be filled by magician and mentalist Noora Karma, who is expected to include a well-known Finnish politician in an unprecedented stunt.

Viewers of Yle’s Arto Nyberg magazine programme will remember Karma for her mind-boggling act on the show last month.

The Independence Day gala after-party will be broadcast live on Yle TV1 from 10.15 pm, immediately after coverage of the President’s Reception.
