Stranded holidaymakers return home

A British airliner carrying around 300 Finnish passengers from Phuket, Thailand to Helsinki arrived home early Tuesday afternoon after being stranded overnight in Samara, Russia.

The Thomson Airlines jet had to make an emergency landing after one of its engines failed. Engineers flew in from Manchester to repair the fault on the Boeing 767.

No passengers on the charter trip arranged by Finnish tour operator Finnmatkat were hurt in the incident.

Many of the disembarking passengers were hungry and distraught upon arrival at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport following their overnight ordeal.
