Talvivaara has opened the doors to its Sotkamo site five times. This time visitors are to be bussed around on a tour of the site. They will then plied with coffee before hearing the latest plans from a company that has been plagued with controversy over its environmental record.

Environmental issues are foremost in the minds of the majority and mining representatives assured attendees that there will be a strong emphasis on ongoing work related to gypsum pond leakage.

Product Liability head Tuomas Valtanen says that the uranium plant is almost ready for operation and that the mine plans to start testing completely clean water operations during the spring.

Talvivaara is at present waiting for permission to extract uranium. Actual production will commence when the mine has permission from the Radiation Safety Centre.
